Area of application

The thresher could be adjusted to suit the crop to be threshed. It was also used to thresh clover and timothy grass and for winnowing grain.

History

The thresher displayed here, with order number 9135, was completed on 9 December 1930. In 1932 it was sold to Sigurd Andersson of Västäng, Ridö in the County of Västmanland Sweden. The thresher was moved by ferry from Torshälla, outside Eskilstuna to Ridö. It remained in use until 1955 and was used for winnowing until 1976. The thresher returned to Volvo BM in 1979. It is still in working order today. Threshers and combine harvesters are longest-lasting product line in the company's history, from 1860 to 1981. To satisfy the demand for wood for thresher production, Munktell had its own sawmill on the site. Just as Volvo paint their machines yellow nowadays, in those days it was natural to paint threshers pink.
